ENGINE DERATING

During the slow steaming process although the total fuel consumption is reduced, the specific fuel consumption is likely to increase as the engine is no longer working in its optimum design rpm range. The sfc of the engine could be further reduced by derating the engine to the slow steaming rpm range. This process will include modification to the engine and its components to be tuned/replaced to the new rpm range.
